I have finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
I am somewhat disappointed. The ending...

Don't Make Me Do It!
I swear, I will start critiquing the CF Payne "art" that shows up on the back cover of Reader's Digest.
And we wouldn't want that, would we?

I'm Such a Dork
I will be the first to admit I have a soft spot for female vocalists. Dido, Shirley Manson, Imogen Heap, Sinead Lohan1, you get the idea.
Well, I've finally listened to Lily Allen's album Alright Still. Considering my last encounter with fad Britgirl pop was Lady Sovereign, I wasn't expecting much.2 But I was pleasantly surprised. When I first heard her single "Smile", I thought it was OK, but would soon get sickening due to massive overplay. But then I don't listen to commercial radio very much3, so I never got sick of it. Plus, you could catch her kinda Cockney, kinda Brit accent4, and I thought it was both good and bad - interesting, but ultimately distracting.
I listened, and the verdict is in: I like it. Of course, I must qualify this statement by saying it's 5am, and I have been up for 17 hours, but I don't think it's affecting my judgment. Her singing is nice, the lyrics are actually clever, the music is catchy but not sickening, and there are some real surprises on the album.
So, make sure you listen to it at least once.
To get you in the mood, I've embedded two videos. The first is of her song "Alfie". Just listen. Trust me.
The second is her first single "Smile". Except it's in Simlish, the language of the Sims. As I state flat out in the title of this post, I am a dork.
Finally, another joke5: Train. Soccer ball. Simolean sign.
1. Who???
2. Although after re-listening to a couple of Lady Sov's songs while researching this article, it's not as meh as I remembered. I might have to grab a couple songs for my "One Hit Wonder" compilation mp3 disc.
3. I just broke my arm patting myself on my back. I also got my head wedged in a doorway.
4. You know, the kind that substitutes F for TH, especially if the TH is preceded by an R, like in "Martha", or rather, "Marfa". And drops T's as well: "fitted" becomes "fi'id".
5. No, not me, you turds.
